Spring clean your training, diet and motivation

Are you lacking a bit of motivation in the gym or with your diet?

Here are 7 ways to Spring clean your motivation to get you firing on all cylinders again.

1. Set yourself a new goal
Tired of your usual training or sporting goals? Setting yourself a new one - whether it's a PR in the gym, or a event - can really freshen up your training and put the fire back in your belly. It will also force you to do some research and learn some new information to put into practice.

2. Switch up your training ground
Some of the most successful bodybuilders train at two or even three different gyms. Try out a new gym, it might have bits of kit you've never used before, or the atmosphere, crowd and even the music may be enough to give your training the boost you're looking for.

3. Find a training partner
A good training partner is hard to find, but worth their weight in gold. If there's someone you could train with who will push you, motivate you, keep you on track and help you progress, use them!

4. Try a new approach to training
If you've been training for a while and are hitting a plateau, perhaps it's time to try a new training protocol. 5x5, Max-OT, one-rep max training or hypertrophy… there are loads of official (and unofficial) ways to train and a shake up might be just what you need.

5. Experiment with nutrition
Have you been eating the same old thing for a while now? Or perhaps you don't have a handle on nutrition at all and have been freestyling it. Nutrition is key to muscle gain, fat loss, performance and progress. So maybe it's time to do some research, or even enlist the help of a dietician, to see just how much of a difference diet could make to you.

6. Book a photoshoot
If body composition is your thing, why not scare yourself a little and book a photoshoot with a local physique photographer. Having the date for a shoot in your calendar will give you a concrete goal to work towards, and you'll need to get training and diet in check. Bonus: you'll have a set of great shots as the memory of that time you got shredded!

7. Commit to a lifestyle habit change
Small changes all add up. If you know there's one positive change you could make in your day-to-day life, then do it. Now. Don't delay. Nutrition, food prep, journalling, better sleep, consistent gym visits… whatever it is, now's the time.
