Whey Protein Concentrate now with sunflower lecithin!
Sunflower Lecithin vs Soy Lecithin
If you have ever looked at the labels small print of any brand of whey protein powder you should find the ingredient “soy lecithin” listed, until recently soy was the only lecithin used in the manufacturing of all instantized whey protein powders.
Lecithin is used as an emulsifier that introduces foods with a creamy, moist and smooth texture. It’s often used in chocolates, butters and baked goods and raw ingredients such as natural whey protein powder. The use of lecithin in whey protein powder also helps the powder become instant mixing and clump free, this is ideal for your post workout shake where manual shaking is normally used by way of a shaker bottle to mix your shake.
Soy lecithin has been under the microscope with many claims of its harmfulness relating to phytoestrogens, allergies, toxicity and GMO.
However the use in the manufacture of whey protein powders is minimal at ~1% inclusion, the possible harmful components would be rendered lower once the small amount is broken down and is considered safe for human consumption.
So don’t freak out and start binning your entire protein supplements stash: Unless you wrap yourself in cotton wool and personally farm your own 100% organic produce and meats, in today’s world it’s simply impossible to avoid some form of phytoestrogens, allergies, toxicity and GMO in the everyday foods we consuming and in the air we breathe. Your whey protein powder with Soy lecithin is considered safe for consumption. But times are changing and some raw whey protein manufactures are taking notes.
So what’s new in the protein supplement world?
