"Melbourne Champs is all done, filling back out again, I'm really happy with the placing, as you all guys know, I walked away with the first place which is really awesome. I'm going to explain to you guys a little bit today about what I should have done in my peak week, what I could have done to make myself flair a little bit more. I'm also going to explain to you guys a few things about what I'm going to do on my lead-up to Arnold Classic(Bodybuilding Australia Event), which is going to make me jump on stage a little bit better from Melbourne shows. Right now I'm going to go train some shoulders, then after that we're going to come back and I'm going to explain to you guys a few things about the show. Talk to you soon.
Basically today, the original plan was going to smash some shoulders. I had a little bit of shoulder pain in my rear, my right delt. I think purely because of all the inflammation through putting a little bit too much sodium in post show. My shoulder started to get a bit of inflammation through my rotator cuff, so what I end up doing today just what kind of works for me, work around my shoulder. Did a bit of lats, did a bit of triceps, biceps and basically just did what I could to burn as many calories as I possibly could in the lead-up to the Arnold Classic.
Now I thought I'd explain to you guys my peak week protocol and where I messed up and where I wish I would have done a few different things to make myself peak a little bit harder. Basically, in the depletion phase, I had a lot of pressure on me to perform, I had a lot of eyes watching me, obviously my sponsor. I wanted to really perform for all you guys out there as well. I really wanted to ... I really depleted my body very, very quite hard. Usually what I'll do is I'll do a 3 day deplete of 0 carbohydrates and 0 fats, to deplete my body right down. Then do a nice carb-up and that has worked quite well for me.
This year, I wanted to really take my work to that next level, which I definitely did whether it be good or bad, I definitely did. I depleted for about 5 and a half days this time, which I feel like was a little bit too much. When I went to put those carbohydrates back in, my body was in this crazy mode of depletion which I found it very, very hard for me to drive those carbohydrates back in and get that nice full effect. Also, I had 7 other guys, 6 other guys, competing in the Melbourne Championship's as well so all day long, I wasn't in that mental head space. I was working along with those guys, trying to get those guys ready for the show, helping with their pump-up and helping with their calorie intake, where they should be at in their sodium loading, all the kind of stuff leading to the show.
It's kind of been very hard for me to focus on myself in that lead-up to that event. When it all hit me at once, all at once when they called that my class jump on stage, mentally wasn't prepared for it. What I think happened in my body, my body had a bit of cortisol increase, and what happened was, it's called a fight or flight response where I was all in my head. I was very rusty on stage, I didn't get to pump-up properly, I was trying to get my tan on. I was trying to get my body to put that sodium and carbohydrates back in and send calories back into my body to get that nice full effect. It just didn't really quite work out for me in time because I was so rushed. I ended up going on stage, when those lights hit me, my body just fully depleted, I flattened out and my muscles smoothed over.
At the end of the day, it was an awesome result. I'm really, really happy with the result I got. We ended up getting first place as you guys seen, which is really, really good. I think for the next show what I'm going to do is, I'm just going to put in a little bit more red meat. Red meat expands your glycogen cells which means your body's ability to hold carbohydrates, it's going to be better. I'm going to put in a little more simple carbs for my carb-up. I'm just really not going to deplete as hardly into the show so hopefully the end goal will be the same condition, but just a little bit fuller and a little bit harder leading to that show.
So here we are, we’re just over 2 weeks out from the Arnold Classic Australia. Next week I'm going to go with you guys and my peak week protocol, which I'm going to plan in advance for the peak week this time. I'm just going to go over a few of the things that I'm going to chop up and change here and there, so I make sure I'm 110% organized leading to Arnold Classic and we can really come into that peak week 100% ready to nail it, 110% let's get it.
