L-isoleucine (also referred to just as isoleucine) is an essential amino acid, which can't be produced by our bodies, and must be taken in via our diets or by measured dose from a quality isoleucine amino acid supplement.
Isoleucine is one of the three amino acids in a BCAA supplement powder, capsule or drink (all three amino acids in BCAAs have an extra carbon-based side chain in their structure), and this suggests just how important it is to strength, power and muscle gain athletes. In fact, it makes up around 12% of the total amount of amino acids in the protein structures of the body, and is the third most concentrated amino acid we have in our systems.
Isolecuine is essential for a number of fundamental processes in the body, and for basic good health, strength and recovery. It is incredibly beneficial for protecting muscle tissue (particularly whilst dieting or performing high volume style training) and for repairing lean tissue which is subjected to microdamage from training, particularly weight training. Isoleucine amino acids also boost protein synthesis, which in turn helps build muscle tissue and decrease recovery time.
Isoleucine is a separate amino acid to leucine and has a different chemical structure. The two are derived from different sources and need different enzymes to be synthesised by the body. Isoleucine is manufactured by plants and some microorganisms and needs the metabolic compounds pyruvic acid and alpha-ketoglutaric acid to be created. Both of these compounds promote better aerobic respiration in the body's cells.
L Isoleucine benefits
Important essential amino acid, muscle protection, lean tissue repair, protein synthesis.
Isoleucine is one of the important amino acids used in BCAA supplements, and is highly associated with muscle growth and tissue repair. It is stored in the liver and in muscle tissue. Of great benefit to bodybuilders, powerlifters and other strength and power athletes for muscle gain and retention, good overall health and faster recovery. A very important amino acid which the body can not produce unless we supplement with it.
L Isoleucine dosage and suggested use
As a dietary supplement, mix 1-2g isoleucine with 50ml of water or non acidic juice (grapefruit juice) and drink 1 to 2 times daily or as required. 1 flat 1.5ml scoop provides an estimated 1g serving. Scoop included in package. Consider creating your own BCAA supplement by also purchasing leucine and valine and mixing in a 2:1:1, 4:1:1 or 8:1:1 ratio.
